Merritt Park Place Phase IIIPhase III of the Merritt Park Place Infrastructure Improvements Project will include the Marina Basin Area which is located west of North Tropical Trail and north of SR 520 and borders the Indian River Lagoon with over 1,500 feet of river frontage. The vast majority of the structures are physically or functionally obsolete and this area has the highest indices of crime within the Redevelopment Area. The most prominent use along the river's edge in this area is the marina, which provides an important focal point for those coming to Merritt Island from the mainland. MIRA plans to install infrastructure such as stormwater facilities, sanitary sewer facilities, sidewalks, lighting, etc., which the marina basin lacks at this time. As a result of this planning, the private sector has responded positively by acquiring several parcels of blighted property for the purpose of constructing a luxury waterfront condominium project. Key Benefits
THE BEGINNING IN PICTURES On October 23, 2007, the Board of County Commissioners authorized the extension of the time for mandatory sewer connection to five years for the properties in Merritt Park Place, South Tropical Trail, and Magnolia Avenue sewer service areas. The Agency in partnership with the County Road and Bridge Department began the last phase of the Merritt Park Place sanitary sewer program on February 11, 2008. We anticipate the construction work to take no more than 60 days. Phase I North Tropical Trail
